Songs In My Head

When Violet was in the hopsital I sang her this song over and over (too bad I don't sound like Etta!)  This is my fav song of all time and Violet listens to it with me all the time.  She was so brave in the hospital and would always take a deep breath and try to calm down when I asked her to.  What a champ!

Songs In My Head

This is Violet's very favorite song to dance to.  I tried to record a video of her dancing to it but she would stop dancing, shake her hand at me and yell, "NO PICTURES MAMA!"

So you are stuck with this video.  Warning:  it is a really dumb video.  Like, really dumb.  But the song?  Vi's fav.

Songs In My Head

I must be singing this out loud more than I realize because Madeline was singing it today (with her version of the words, of course).

Sanity Savers/Songs in My Head

I've been sick and Travis is out of town which is not a fun combination.  If it wasn't for Skype and this song:

I would be crazy.  This is my "go to" song lately when I need to get moving and get something done.  Or if everyone is crabby and needs a dance party break.

What?  You don't take dance party breaks in the kitchen to "dance it out"?

You should.

Songs in My Head

I loved The Bangles when I was a kid.  Had their poster in my room so that makes it official, right?  When Travis got me a piano I dug out all of my old sheet music.  I played this song for the girls and now it's one of their favorites.

Songs in my Head

This song reminds me of my brother. It's one of the first songs he learned to play on the guitar.

Songs in my Head: Anniversary Countdown

In a couple weeks Travis and I will be celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary. So in honor of our 10th, I am posting a song a week that reminds me of our relationship (in total cheeseball fashion, of course).

At Last by Etta James

At last, my love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song
Oh, yeah,
at last
The skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clovers
The night I looked at you
I found a dream that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to rest my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known
Oh, yeah when you smile, you smile
Oh, and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
For you are mine
At last

Songs in my Head: Anniversary Countdown

In less than a month Travis and I will be celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary. So in honor of our 10th, I am posting a song a week that reminds me of our relationship (in total cheeseball fashion, of course).

As anyone who is married knows, marriage is not all rainbows and roses. When you're staring into your spouse's eyes saying your vows it is hard to imagine the"for worse" part. But the "for worse" part will come (in hindsight it may turn out to be a small speedbump instead of a pothole). Travis and I are no different and have experienced speedbumps and potholes. But no matter what we have always stood by each other.

Stand By Me By: Ben E. King

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
And the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me, stand by me-e, yeah

Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Darlin', darlin', stand by me-e, stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Songs in my Head: Anniversary Countdown

In a couple months Travis and I will be celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary. So in honor of our 10th, I am posting a song a week that reminds me of our relationship (in total cheeseball fashion, of course).

When Travis asked me to be a truck driver with him I thought he was crazy. I was positive there was no way I would give up a life I loved to go out on the road. I knew the reasons why being a truck driver would allow us to reach out goals, I just didn't want to do it.

But when it came right down to it, I love Travis. And wherever he was, our family was. So it turns out I WILL follow him wherever he goes. And you know what? I'm glad we were truck drivers because now I get to live a life even better than what I dreamed about. Staying at home with my kids? CHECK. Living near family? CHECK. Being married to my guy? CHECKITY CHECK CHECK CHECK.

I WILL FOLLOW HIM (Little Peggy March)

I will follow Him, follow Him wherever He may go,
And near Him, I always will be,
For nothing can keep me away, He is my destiny.

I will follow Him, ever since He touched my heart I knew,
There isn't an ocean too deep,
A mountain so high, it can keep,
Keep me away, away from His love.

I love Him, I love Him, I love Him,
And where He goes, I'll follow, I'll follow, I'll follow.

I will follow Him, follow Him wherever He may go,
There isn't an ocean too deep,
A mountain so high, it can keep,
Keep me away...

I will follow Him (follow Him),
Follow Him wherever He may go,
There isn't an ocean too deep,
A mountain so high, it can keep,
Keep me away, away from His love...

I love Him (Oh yes, I love Him)
I'll follow (I'm gonna follow)
True love (He'll always be my true, true love)
Forever (Now until forever)
I love Him, I love Him, I love Him,
And where He goes, I'll follow, I'll follow, I'll follow,
He'll always be my true love, my true love, my true love,
From now until forever, forever, forever...

There isn't an ocean too deep,
A mountain so high, it can keep,
Keep me away, away from His love.

Songs in my Head: Anniversary Countdown

In a couple months Travis and I will be celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary. So in honor of our 10th, I am posting a song a week that reminds me of our relationship (in total cheeseball fashion, of course).

Travis and I danced to this at our wedding. One of Trav's favorites...

STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT BY FRANK SINATRA
Strangers in the night exchanging glances
Wondering in the night
What were the chances we'd be sharing love
Before the night was through.

Something in your eyes was so inviting,
Something in you smile was so exciting,
Something in my heart,
Told me I must have you.

Strangers in the night, two lonely people

We were strangers in the night
Up to the moment
When we said our first hello.
Little did we know
Love was just a glance away,
A warm embracing dance away and -

Ever since that night we've been together.
Lovers at first sight, in love forever.
It turned out so right,
For strangers in the night.

Songs in my Head: Anniversary Countdown

In a couple months Travis and I will be celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary. So in honor of our 10th, I am posting a song a week that reminds me of our relationship (in total cheeseball fashion, of course).

I love love love this song. After Travis and I ran into each other unexpectedly (after almost two years of not seeing each other) we were just best friends for about a year. Really, we were in love with one another but too scared to admit it.

LET'S FALL IN LOVE BY DIANA KRALL
I have a feeling, it's a feeling,
I'm concealing, I don't know why
It's just a mental, sentimental alibi

But I adore you
So strong for you
Why go on stalling
I am falling
Our love is calling
Why be shy?

Let's fall in love
Why shouldn't we fall in love?
Our hearts are made of it
Let's take a chance
Why be afraid of it

Let's close our eyes and make our own paradise
Little we know of it, still we can try
To make a go of it

We might have an end for each other
To be or not be
Let our hearts discover

Let's fall in love
Why shouldn't we fall in love
Now is the time for it, while we are young
Let's fall in love

We might have and end for each other
To be or not be
Let our hearts discover

Let's fall in love
Why shouldn't we fall in love?
Now is the time for it, while we are young
Let's fall in love [4x]

Songs in my Head: Anniversary Countdown

In a little less than ten weeks from now Travis and I will be celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary. So in honor of our 10th, I am posting a song a week that reminds me of our relationship (in total cheeseball fashion, of course).

Don't mind the strange video...the song brings back such good memories.

SHERRY FRASER BY MARCY PLAYGROUND
Oo I saw stars falling all around her head
Red, gold, and blue
Sherry Fraser where are you

'Cause I saw starts falling all around your head
When we were young
Sherry Fraser where have you gone

We're all wondering
When will you come back
And play..some day.
Sherry yeah

The mad hatter he waited for Alice
To come to tea again
He waits forever for his old lover
And always wonderin'

Will I see stars falling all around your head
When you return
Sherry Fraser what have you learned

And we're all wondering
When will you come back
And play..some day
And please do come back
And play..some day
Please do come back
And play..some day
Sherry yeah

Songs in my Head: Anniversary Countdown

In a little over ten weeks from now Travis and I will be celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary. So in honor of our 10th, I am posting a song a week that reminds me of our relationship (in total cheeseball fashion, of course).

Now I am not much of a country music fan. And although this song is pretty twangy for me, the lyrics say so much. This song reminds me of when we were first dating. We danced to this song in the kitchen of my apartment after we got engaged.

TO GET ME TO YOU BY LILA MCCAAN
Well I, I still can remember times
When the night seemed to surround me
I was sure the sun would never shine on me
And I, I thought it my destiny
To walk this world alone
But now you're here with me
Now you're here with me

And I don't regret the rain
Or the nights I felt the pain
Or the tears I had to cry
Some of those times along the way
Every road I had to take
Every time my heart would break
It was just something that I had to get through
To get me to you
To get me to you

Well I, I still can recall the days
When I had no love around me
Makes me glad for every day I have with you
And I, I look in your eyes and know
I'm right where I belong
And I belong with you
Always belonged with you

And I don't regret the rain
Or the nights I felt the pain
Or the tears I had to cry
Some of those times along the way
Every road I had to take
Every time my heart would break
It was just something that I had to go through
To get me to you
To get me to you

And if I could I wouldn't change a thing
Wouldn't change a thing baby
Because your love was waiting there for me
Waiting there for me baby

And I don't regret the rain
Or the nights I felt the pain
Or the tears I had to cry
Some of those times along the way
Every road I had to take
Every time my heart would break
It was just something that I had to get through
To get me to you
To get me to you

Songs in My Head

Does it hurt my credibility to admit that I have an old Huey Lewis CD? Violet cried a lot during the middle of the night when she was first born. I found myself singing "It's Alright" to her over and over until she fell asleep. Now I can't get it out of my head.

Happy listening!

Songs in My Head

I listened to an Etta James hits CD over and over again when we were truck drivers. I always woke Travis up singing along to this one...

Happy listening!
